About

My name is Ryan Shpil. I am a Graphic Designer who is also well versed in package design, drawing, painting, and photography. I am a quick learner and enjoy dabbling, so I am always willing to learn new skills to push my boundaries.

It wasn't always my dream to become a Graphic Designer, but it was definitely something that was meant to be. Everything that I learned growing up lead to where I am today. Originally, I wanted to be an American Sign Language interpreter. I went to Northern Virginia Community College and obtained an Associate’s Degree in Deaf Studies. After learning American Sign Language, I realized that what I liked about it was that it's a language that is purely visual. But there is more to it than that...

For spoken language the brain uses mostly just the left hemisphere, which is the linear, logical side of the brain. The left hemisphere is the side of the brain that organizes your words to be grammatically correct before you speak. The right hemisphere is the "here and now" part of the brain that mainly deals with creativity and art. Sign language is particularly interesting because it uses both sides of the brain simultaneously. The left side of the brain decides what it wants to say and how it wants to be said, then the right side of brain begins to fire to come up with a way to creatively and visually express those complex ideas in the signing space.

I believe that my background in sign language and my training to use both hemispheres of my brain have been key components helping me to excel as a graphic designer. I am a motivated and creative designer that is always trying to better myself and take my designs in new, captivating directions. I am always excited for new opportunities and I am always looking to learn new things.
